Case Study: Restoring a Range Rover After a Junction Collision

At Vehicle Bodycare, we see firsthand how even a split-second misjudgment at a junction can lead to significant damage. This was exactly the case for a recent client and his Range Rover.

The Incident: A Costly Turn

The accident occurred while our client was turning left at a junction. Believing there was enough space to merge, he began to pull out. Unfortunately, a third party (TP) vehicle approached faster than anticipated, resulting in a heavy impact on the front offside (driver’s side) of the Range Rover.

While the client was thankfully unhurt, the luxury SUV didn’t fare as well.

The Damage Assessment

Upon recovery to our workshop, our technicians performed a thorough inspection. Because Range Rovers are engineered with sophisticated safety and aesthetic components, the damage was extensive:

  • Front Bumper: Completely detached from the mounting points due to the force of the impact.

  • Bonnet: Sustained significant denting and misalignment, requiring expert panel beating and potentially a full replacement to ensure perfect shut-lines.

  • Safety Systems: Both the driver and passenger airbags deployed. This automatically rendered the vehicle a “non-runner” for safety reasons.

  • Mechanical Integrity: The vehicle was undriveable, requiring our specialized recovery team to transport it to our facility.

Our Repair Approach

Repairing a modern Range Rover involves much more than just “fixing a dent.” To return this vehicle to its pre-accident condition, we followed a rigorous manufacturer-standard process:

  1. Safety First: Replacing the airbag modules, clock springs, and seatbelt pretensioners, followed by a full diagnostic reset of the SRS (Supplemental Restraint System).

  2. Structural Alignment: Checking the front-end chassis rails to ensure the impact didn’t compromise the vehicle’s structural integrity.

  3. Precision Painting: Using our state-of-the-art spray booths to achieve an exact color match, ensuring the new bumper and bonnet blend seamlessly with the original factory finish.

  4. Sensor Calibration: Calibrating the parking sensors and adaptive cruise control systems located within the front bumper.

Expert Tip: When airbags deploy, the vehicle’s computer (ECU) often locks the ignition as a fire-prevention measure. This is why professional recovery is essential for modern luxury SUVs following a collision.

The Result

Despite the heavy impact, the Range Rover left our shop looking—and driving—exactly as it did the day it left the showroom. Our client was back on the road with the peace of mind that his vehicle’s safety systems were fully restored and its resale value protected.

Accidents happen, but they don’t have to define the life of your vehicle.
